Paweł Mendrek

Paweł Mendrek is a visual artist whose practice encompasses drawings and paintings incorporating collage elements, as well as photography and film. His work investigates mechanisms of deconstruction, systematically abstracting reality through a range of artistic strategies. His works have received numerous awards and have been exhibited extensively in both national and international exhibitions. He graduated from the Katowice branch of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien). He earned a PhD in Fine Arts in 2008 and completed his habilitation in 2016. In addition to his artistic practice, Mendrek works as a curator and coordinator of artistic projects, including Connect:London and Parallax, developed in collaboration with Chelsea College of Arts in London. He participates in the international research project Culture Pro and conducts institutional research at the Academy of Fine Arts. Together with Małgorzata Szandała and Ewa Zasada, he co-founded Travel Agency Art Collective, producing nomadic exhibitions and collaborative artistic interventions. He collaborates with Loft 8 Gallery in Vienna, where he currently lives.
