SIKSA

SIKSA

SIKSA (a colloquial, derogatory word of Yiddish origin referring to a young woman perceived as vulgar, inexperienced, and immature) is a feminist duo built around voice, bass, text, and bodies. SIKSA’s performances combine the raw energy of a punk concert with performance poetry and contemporary dance. Through constant interaction with the audience, each show develops a unique dramatic intensity. Within the self-imposed limitations of their instrumentation and stage presence, the duo discovers the strength to forge its own artistic path. Their work draws at times on childhood memories, at others on fairy tales, legends, or reality refracted through SIKSA’s uninhibited and uncompromising perspective. In their artistic practice, the personal intersects with the political, while the unspoken collides with what is shouted aloud.
